Port Macquarie Coastal Walk

Start the walk from Town Green foreshore in Port Macquarie, winding along the coast via Town Beach, Rocky Beach lookout, Nobby’s Beach and Harry's lookout overlooking Shelly Beach and on to Sea Acres. You’ll see several historical sites along the way and enjoy stunning seaside scenery that surrounds Port Macquarie. Between May and November, you might spot a whale or two on their annual migration; don't forget to record your sighting. The south end of the walk is one of the few places on the east coast where the forest meets the foam. The walk ends at Tacking Point lighthouse; however you can break it up into shorter sections if you feel like a short walk or are walking with kids. There are opportunities for barbecues and swimming along the way, including at Shelly Beach and a beachside café at Flynn’s Beach. You can reverse the walk at Tacking Point Lighthouse and head into Port Macquarie. The walk is nine kilometres long (one way) where you will walk on beaches, there are multiple sections with stairs and viewing platforms.

Every year, from May to November, tens of thousands of Humpack Whales migrate from Antarctica to the tropics and back again. We have two boats that depart daily during the season from the CBD on whale watching tours, "Wave Rider" and "Essence". We now also offer sunrise and sunset whale watching experiences, the magic lighting makes for a unique experience and stunning photo opportunities.

Koala Hospital Port Macquarie

Koala Conservation Australia proudly operates the Koala Hospital Port Macquarie, the Wild Koala Breeding Program and Visitor Centre at Guulabaa, plantations and conservation programs. The koala hospital is set in the beautiful grounds of Macquarie Nature Reserve and has been in operation since 1973. We have a number of permanent resident koalas and, at any given time, a number in rehab receiving treatment for injuries and illness. Our fully stocked shop offers a range of quality goods from local artisans with all proceeds going to koala rehabilitation. The Koala Hospital Port Macquarie is open from 8:30am-4pm, 364 days a year (not Christmas Day). Our new visitor centre at Guulabaa opens in December 2024. Book via our website for entry and group tours. We have toilet facilities, and lovely grounds/picnic tables for picnic lunches, and you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or coffee at Home @ Roto House.
